New Employee Starter Pack: What to Give, 1 July 2025

Hiring a new employee?

From 1 July 2025, employers in Australia must comply with updated onboarding requirements. This blog brings together all the key documents and actions into one streamlined checklist. It also highlights the new Fair Work Information Statement (FWIS) and how it fits into your onboarding process. Whether you’re hiring casual, permanent, or fixed-term staff, having the right documents on hand ensures compliance and sets the right foundation.

Why It Matters

Providing the right documents when someone starts work isn’t just a best practice – it’s a legal requirement. Failing to do so can result in penalties, confusion, or disputes down the line.

FAQs

Do I have to give the updated Fair Work Information Statement to all new staff from 1 July 2025?

  1. Yes. The revised FWIS applies to all employees who start on or after 1 July 2025.

What if my employee doesn’t choose a super fund?

You’ll need to request their stapled fund via the ATO. This ensures their existing super account continues.

Can I give these documents digitally?

Yes. You can provide PDFs or digital onboarding packs as long as they are accessible to the employee.

Where do I get the latest versions of these forms?

They are available on fairwork.gov.au, ato.gov.au, and through your payroll software.

What if I use an external payroll service?

Ensure your provider updates their onboarding process with the latest requirements and gives you confirmation of issued statements.
